The Autumnal Equinox

So the Fall Equinox occurs at 4:22 AM tomorrow morning, when the sunlight falls exactly on the equator as the earth continues its ceaseless rotation around the sun. The earth is bit closer to the sun, with the northern hemisphere at such an angle to become more obtuse to the rays of the sun until December 23....and then less so once again until the spring equinox begins to return it from its nubilous rest.

I love the seasons. The back and forth, the ebb and flow, the rhythm. For now, the air is crisp and clean, soon to be brisk. Sweaters will come out of the closet, and hats and mittens. The sound of the locust chirping in the evening now has changed from the frantic fervor of late summer, to the more pitiful and finally resigned sound of a creature accepting a fate it cannot change. Soon a few last chirps, maybe the thought of its lifetime, maybe not, and then silence.

I returned late last night from Boston, having had classes there since Friday. It was, once again, an amazing experience. The campus was beautiful, my classmates inspiring, my professors incredible adept at conveying their knowledge and vast experience. I feel more alive, more awake, than I have in years, the frantic pace something I've been familiar with since my early 20's and what I really like, what I really understand. I have my board recertification test next Monday and have studied only three hours for it - this week I must study that - then back to my masters!

"Tomorrow we will run faster, stretch our arms out farther......And one fine morning-"

But for now it is today.....a beautiful day.... and I shall do my best.

Love,

Mom

  1. Written like a true poet who sees life for what it really is and calls it likewise. Beautiful!
